About Bequia
Bequia is the largest of the Grenadines islands and is situated at latitude 13N and 60.15W. Bequia measures 7 square miles and has a population of approximately 5300. It forms part of the country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and is sandwiched between Saint Vincent 9 miles to the north and Mustique 7 miles to the south. Also in the chain of islands is Mayreau, Union Island and Canouan amongst other smaller islands. A short way from Mayreau is the Tobago Cays a 'not to be missed' experience being a protected marine park with beautiful coral and marine wildlife. SVG is a self-governing country that remains part of the British Commonwealth and has adopted the British legal and political systems. The local currency is Eastern Caribbean Dollars although US Dollars are widely accepted. The electrical format is the same as the UK (220-240Hz).
Average temperatures range between 24C and 32C. Driest months are between January and April with the wettest being June to October although climate change dictates that this is not guaranteed.
Getting There
Bequia island can be reached from Europe, the USA, and Canada via one of six Caribbean gateways: Barbados, St Lucia, Martinique, Grenada, Puerto Rico and Trinidad. Barbados provides more daily connecting flights to Bequia and Saint Vincent than any other gateway airport. From the UK, Europe or North America, you might find it easiest to take a direct or connecting flight to Barbados, and then a connection by the local carrier LIAT to Saint Vincent and ferry onwards to Bequia. Alternatively you can use a charter airplane for the 45 minute flight direct to Bequia. On 14th February 2017 the Argyle International Airport opened on Saint Vincent, international carriers include Air Canada, American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.
There are regular ferry services from Saint Vincent to Bequia namely; Bequia Express and the Admiralty Transport Company. MV Barracuda operates a services to the southern Grenadines and can be picked up via Saint Vincent.
